As stated before, motivation is a key issue in the classes I'm teaching, or at least the lack of motivation. What I'm tired of is people telling me that it is my fault that the students aren't motivated, that it is the teacher's responsibility that the students aren't motivated. This is really a bunch of crap. I understand that a teacher must try to present the material in a way that is both relevant and interesting to a student, but if the students really could not care less, what is a ...

So I'm taking my last math class before I graduate. It's called Real Analysis, and believe me its not nearly as cool as it sounds! So today we are looking at open and closed intervals and open and closed sets. (0,1) is an open set and [0,1] is a closed set (If you would like me to explain exactly why they are either closed or open I will later). Now some sets such as O (the empty set) and R (the set of all real numbers) that are both closed and open (again, if you would like me ...

So as you are probably aware George W. Bush was the Governor or Texas for 6 years before he became President of the United States. Even though W was born in Connecticut, and went to school at Yale and Harvard, the people of Texas consider him a Texan, and are fiercely proud of him. So now it comes out that the University of Texas at Austin, the flag ship of the UT system is putting together a bid to get the W presidential library built at UT Austin. For those of you that don't know, and ...

Austin has a very large transiant population. On pretty much every street corner in Austin there is someone begging for money. While I'm stopped at red lights I have nothing better to do than to read there signs "Disabled Vietam Vet" "Homeless, anything helps" "Single Mother Trying to Surive" "Help support Austin's Fire Department" "LBJ High School Cheerleading, please donate!" Hold, it... WTF?! Did I read those last two correct??? Don't I pay taxes for the freakin Fire Depa...

Yes, today is the first day of the new year according to the lunar calander. It is now 4702, or the year of the rooster. I don't know about you, but I'm sure it'll take me a month to stop writing, "year of the monkey" on all my checks.

So, as I stated previously , I am currently student teaching. One of my major hurdles to over come between now and May will be motivation. To put it simply, the students have none. I have see more motivation on soldiers that were detailed to sort trash after 30 days in the field at JRTC. I would like to share a short story to demonstrate what I'm dealing with. John was a student in my 5th Period Algebra class. This was John's 3rd time taking algebra. He failed it his freshman year, he f...

So I used to own a Playstation 2. I bought it when they first came out, and used to play it all the time. Recently, with school, and EQ2 and just life in general I haven't played it as much. And when I say, "as much" I mean once or twice in the past 6 months. This girl I had been stationed with in the Army recenly came back to Ft. Hood as an Apache pilot. She brought her 12 year old son with her. Shes making pretty good money, but things are still rather tight for them. They came down to ...

Back in 1994, during my first tour in Korea, a bunch of us heard of this movie that was causing a buzz back in the states. All the GI's coming from the states were telling us how great this moive "Pulp Fiction" was. We were really excited to see this movie, but at the time, it could take anywhere from 4 months to 50 years for a movie to get from the states to the military bases in Korea. We were pretty bummed by this until one of the guys found out that Pulp Fiction was playing at one of the ...

Apparently someone got to my blog by typing "she kicked his balls" and "kicked my balls" into google. This puzzles me. For one thing, it puzzles me because I dont recall writing anything about being kicked in the balls, and for another, i couldn't find a link to my page by clicking on those searches. Weird...

Here in central Texas every January, the Cedar trees come into bloom releasing billions and billions* of grains of pollen. To the misery of those with over-enthusiastic histamines this time of hell, er... year, is called "Cedar Fever Season" even though for most, there is no fever involved. I am a very allergic person. When I was 11 or 12 I went to an allergist and had an allergy test. If you've never experianced this, I would suggest spreading honey on your back, and laying down, face up,...
