At least in my humble opion
Well since the masses have been begging for me to blog again (ok it was just two people that dropped hints that its been a long time since I've blogged) I thought I better do something.
Recently I have been getting into Cover songs. Now I used to be of the opinion that 90% of all covers suck. I am/was of the opinion that there are too many damn covers out there and these slacker artists outta get off their asses and come up with their own damned songs!
Now let me explain. I usually hate covers because most fall into one of two catagories.
1) The song sounds exactly the same with someone else singing it. WTF, don't they have a shred of creativity?!
2) There is no way in hell this is the same song!? WTF haven't they heard the original?
Now I know that sounds sorta contadictory, but I feel that covering a song is a fine balance between old a new. These ones I've been recently have been a bit differnt. Most are covers of hit pop songs done in SKA or Punk. Which in and of itself doesn't make them any better, I've just been in that sorta mood. What is good about these songs is that they seem to (again in my opinion) strike a good balance of keeping the song sounding like the original, but moderizing/punkifying the song.
The other big thing is that I don't think I've heard a single one of these song on the radio. What that says to me is that these guys aren't trying to ride someone else's coattails. These are fun songs, and the band put them on their CDs to let people listen to their interpretation of the songs.
So anyway, here are some of the covers I've been listening to and the band that does them.
Dancing With Myself - Blink 182

I Want Candy - Good Charlotte
Turning Japanese - Guttermouth
