People are dumb.

I know I'm not really shocking anyone by this statement, but I feel that I must reiterate this idea.

As I've said before, I don't really care what political views people have, I believe that everyone has the right to believe in what they will, but sometimes, stupid people, shouldn't be allowed to think at all.

Case in point. I was driving down the road Friday morning and I was astounded by the sheer stupidity of a political bumper sticker that I saw. The bumper sticker said, "How many Lives for Oil?"

Now normally I might debate that if the current war (can we really call it a war, I mean major military operations ended back in May right? LOL) in Iraq was truely about oil, and with the billions the US has spent on the war, don't you think that there were more cost effective ways to get a bit of oil?

But I digress, this article isn't about whether or not the war in Iraq is about the US gobbling up oil, it's about the fact that I saw this bumper sticker on a Lincoln Navigator, a vehicle with just about the worst fuel effiencies of any car on the market today with a whopping 13mpg.

I mean come on, if your really worried about the soldiers over in Iraq giving their lives for a certain petroleum, doesnt it make sense that you would try to help out, and try to conserve said petroleum product?

Oh the irony.

Than again they also forget how crucial oil is to everything in their lives and that despite it being that crucial we are getting the raw end of this deal.

Power Plants that power everything (hospitals, your house, etc.)
Vehicles (Ambulances, Fire Rigs, Squad Cars, etc.)

Though we can argue about the deal and everything elsewhere, I agree with the irony of the whole situation. No (Insert Reason Here) for Oil yet they go and drive a fuel inefficient vehicle, oh how I wish people were stricken blind after they got out there car for their glaring stupidity!

Though we need to stop defeating evolution with all these laws that get passed to keep the idiots safe, ARGH!!

When we purchased our Suburban, it had a "God Bless America" sticker on it. I wanted to take it off for the very reason you blog about, that we would be perceived as hypocrites. On the other hand though, how much more American can you get?

It seems the majority is wrapped up in oil and oil issues and how some of us are bad for driving big gas, guzzling vehicles, or how we don't know how to drive said vehicles in bad weather and are thusly bad people to put the rest of the population in jeopardy.

Believe me, I WISH it got better gas mileage and I would be all for alternative fuels, if they become affordable. Unfortunately, right now, gas is affordable even at $2 / gallon. Hell, even at $5 / gallon. I will never complain about dropping $60 bucks to fill up the 'Burban. Cause that's the way it is.

Its one thing to drive a 'Sub' out in the boonies where you need the size and the 4 wheel drive. Its another to drive a Lincoln Navigator in down town Austin. Hell I bet that thing has never even seen 4 wheel drive.

I'll bet if mud strikes it, they run down to their favorite carwash and spend 12.00 to get "the works". Then spend another 4.00 in gas to go back home.
